Centenary College - Bachelors, English, Elementary Education, Special Education
When I teach students, I look for their inherent strengths, and whether or not those strengths are related to the subject matter at hand, I try to work them into the learning process. This gives the student the crucial advantage of self-confidence, even when they are struggling with the subject matter. I hold a bachelor's degree from Centenary College of New Jersey in English, as well as teaching certifications in Elementary English and Special Education. During the four years I spent obtaining my degree, I spent an entire year teaching as a part of my practicum and an additional year serving as a student teacher. During this time, I was also acting as a tutor for elementary school students, including ESL learners. My specialty is tutoring math. I enjoy getting creative with my teaching methods with this subject, using visual aids such as sketches and models. Another subject that I enjoy teaching is writing, and I like to use different techniques to optimize writing proficiency, such as having an in-depth conversation about what the student's goal is for the piece they are writing, what kind of message they want to communicate, and how they want to organize the structure of their writing. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, writing, hiking, knitting, and baking.
