Melissa s.
Private tutor in Montclair, NJ
Education
Marist College, Math Education with a minor is psychology. I graduated in 2005 and have been teaching math ever since.
Experience
I have tutored students in algebra, geometry, algebra 2 and trigonometry. For the past two years I have been volunteering at a homework center helping kids with homework spanning from first grade to eighth grade. I recently got married and moved from Boston Massachusetts to Montclair New Jersey for my husbands job. I've been a math teacher for the past 9 years but decided to take the year off. I love teaching, love working with students and love helping kids understand concepts they may feel are difficult. It was the first time in 27 years that I did not have a first day of school and it just felt wrong. I have missed being in the classroom and I think tutoring would be a great way to teach and work part time. I am familiar with math content spanning from kindergarten to 12th grade. I have coached math leagues, including math counts teams, collaborated with teachers to make sure our lessons fit all learning types, and have a great tool box of manipulative to help kids understand math concepts easier. I am friendly and understanding and enjoy making learning fun!
